01 — Cutoff

Know your cutoff in your own time zone

The cutoff is posted in Eastern Time, which catches out a lot of people. If you are on the West Coast, an afternoon deadline is really a late morning one. Aim for 30 to 60 minutes before the cutoff rather than right on it — that buffer covers a question about your routing number or a proof that needs approving.

Weekends and legal holidays are not business days, so an order placed on Saturday is normally processed on Monday. There is more detail on our late window rush guide and our shipping policy.

Who orders next day checks, and why

Next day checks matter most when the payment date cannot move. Payroll is the obvious one, and in most US states late payroll carries real financial penalties. Then there is the month end accounts payable run that used more checks than expected, a new business account with no starter checks, a printing error that made your current stock unusable, or stolen checks that need replacing before a deadline. Different triggers, same requirement: working checks in hand tomorrow morning.

Every format, ready for the software you already use

Same day printing is available across the full range. Computer checks, also called laser checks, in check on top, check in middle, check on bottom and 3 on a page layouts. QuickBooks compatible checks. Manual business checks for writing by hand. Blank check stock and personal checks.

Formats for QuickBooks, Xero, MYOB, Deltek, Yardi and Quicken are all held as standard, so there is no alignment guesswork when the box arrives and no test print wasted on a check you cannot afford to spoil. If you are unsure which format your software prints to, check on top is the voucher style QuickBooks uses by default and is the right answer for most businesses.

What you need before you order

Have these five things to hand and the order takes a couple of minutes. A missing detail is the most common reason a rush order slips a day.

  • 03Your business name and address exactly as it should appear in print
  • 04A physical street address for delivery, including any suite or unit number. Overnight carriers cannot reliably deliver to a PO Box
  • 05Your logo file if you want it printed, free of charge. Black on a white background, saved as BMP or JPG, uploaded during the order process

A few things slow a rush order down, and all of them are avoidable: a proof approved late, a color logo (color cannot be sent overnight, so order in black if speed matters), a PO Box address, a missing suite number, or a mistyped routing number that forces a reprint. If you have already missed today's cutoff, place the order anyway rather than waiting until tomorrow. Production starts the next business morning and you keep the earliest possible delivery date. Overnight and Next Day Checks FAQs

What are overnight checks?

Overnight checks are business or personal checks that are printed the same day you order and shipped by an overnight carrier for delivery the next business day. At Checks Next Day the cutoff is 2:00 PM ET, Monday to Friday excluding legal holidays. There is a fuller explanation on our overnight checks guide.

How late can I order and still get my checks next day?

Order before 2:00 PM ET on a business day and your checks print and ship the same day for next business day arrival. Monday through Friday, orders placed between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM ET can still arrive the next business day if you add the optional $25 rush fee. That late window is not available on weekends or legal holidays. Orders placed after 5:00 PM ET ship free on the next business day.

Can I still use the late window on a Friday afternoon?

Yes. The 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM ET rush window runs Monday through Friday. A Friday order placed in that window ships the same evening with the optional $25 rush fee. After 5:00 PM ET on Friday, the order is processed on the next business day, which is normally Monday. More detail is on our late window rush guide and our shipping policy.

Do next day checks cost more than standard checks?

Overnight shipping is free on every order with no minimum. The only optional charge is the $25 rush fee if you order inside the late window and still need next business day delivery. If you are not in a hurry, our non-rush division at Checkomatic.com carries the same quality at lower prices.

What time will my checks arrive?

Most commercial addresses receive delivery in the morning of the next business day. Windows for residential and remote addresses can differ, so use a staffed business address where possible and make sure someone is available to receive the package.

Will my entire order arrive next day?

Orders placed before the 2:00 PM ET cutoff on a business day ship overnight for next business day delivery. Ground orders and non-rush reorders ship within 3 business days by ground service. Larger orders are sometimes packed and shipped in more than one box, which is explained on our split shipment guide. Are your rush checks compatible with QuickBooks?

Yes. We hold QuickBooks compatible formats in check on top, 3 on a page and wallet or personal styles, and they ship on the same next day service as our other business checks. Check on top is the voucher format QuickBooks prints to by default. We also stock Xero, MYOB, Deltek, Yardi and Quicken formats.

Can I order checks for a brand new business account?

Yes. You do not need existing checks. You need the ABA routing number and account number from your bank, your business name and address as they should print, and the check number you want to start from. Your bank provides the routing and account numbers when the account is opened.

Can I get checks delivered on a Saturday or Sunday?

No. Orders placed on Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays are processed on the next business day. An order placed on Saturday will normally ship on Monday for Tuesday delivery.

Are your checks printed with security features?

Yes. Speed does not reduce security. Every check is printed with a magnetically encoded MICR line so your bank can process it on automated sorting equipment, and our checks carry security features as standard. Email [email protected] if you need the full feature list for your records.
